If you do not have affordable coverage through a job, the Health Insurance Marketplace is usually where you enroll. For most people in Florida, open enrollment runs November 1 through January 15.
Coverage you pick in that window generally starts January 1 if you enroll by mid-December, and later in January or February if you enroll after that. Dates can shift slightly by year, so we confirm them with you when we look at your options.
Who this is for in Central Florida
- Self-employed contractors and small-business owners
- People who lost a job or whose hours got cut
- Families who do not get insurance from an employer
- Anyone in Orlando, Kissimmee, Orange, or Osceola County comparing ACA plans
If you already have Medicare, this is not your enrollment path. Medicare has its own calendar.
How subsidies actually work
Many people do not pay the full sticker premium. Savings depend on:
- Household income
- Family size
- County
- Whether you have an affordable job-based offer
Silver plans are where cost-sharing reductions can matter, not only the monthly premium. That is why “cheapest bronze” is not always the cheapest year.
We run the numbers with you. We do not guess.
Special enrollment still exists
You do not have to wait for November if you had a qualifying life event, such as:
- Lost coverage
- Moved
- Got married
- Had a baby
Those windows are time-limited. If something just changed, call.
What to have ready
- Zip code (plans are county-specific)
- Household members and ages
- A realistic income range for the year
- Doctors you want to keep, if any
- Medications
