Florida’s ACA (Obamacare) open enrollment runs November 1 through January 15. Pick a plan by December 15 if you want coverage to start January 1. Plans picked from December 16 through January 15 start February 1. Instant Health Help is a licensed agency based in Orlando and Kissimmee, and our agent, Lobsang Rivas (NPN 18838086), can help you enroll, renew, or switch plans anywhere in Florida, in person in Central Florida, by phone, or online, in English or Spanish. Our help costs you nothing.

We are a licensed insurance agency, not the Marketplace and not a government office. Florida’s Marketplace is HealthCare.gov. You can always apply there on your own.

Already have a Marketplace plan? Don’t just let it renew

If you do nothing, HealthCare.gov may re-enroll you automatically. That keeps you covered, but your premium, your tax credit, your deductible, and your doctor network can all change for next year. Before December 15, we help you:

  • Update your income estimate and household so your tax credit is figured on current numbers
  • Check that your doctors, hospital, and pharmacy are still in network
  • Run your prescriptions against next year’s drug lists
  • Compare your renewal with the other plans at your ZIP code

Who can enroll in a Florida Marketplace plan

In general, you can buy a Marketplace plan if you live in Florida, are a U.S. citizen, national, or lawfully present, and are not in prison. If you have Medicare, or a job-based plan that counts as affordable, Marketplace savings usually aren’t available to you. Documents that help: document checklist (in Spanish).

Savings: what to expect

Premium tax credits are based on your expected income and household size for next year, and on the plans sold at your ZIP code. Many Floridians qualify for help with the premium, and some Silver plans also lower deductibles and copays. You may qualify after tax credits; eligibility varies. We never quote a price before we see your details. See how Marketplace tax credits work and ACA Bronze vs Silver vs Gold.

If HealthCare.gov says someone in your home may qualify for Florida Medicaid or CHIP, the state decides. We are MyACCESS certified and can help you complete the Florida MyACCESS application, but we are not DCF. See Florida MyACCESS help.

Have this ready before you call

  • Names and dates of birth for everyone who needs coverage
  • Social Security numbers, or immigration documents for lawfully present applicants
  • An income estimate for next year (pay stubs, or self-employment records)
  • Your current plan and HealthCare.gov login, if you are renewing
  • Your doctors, pharmacy, and medication list

Self-employed? Read ACA open enrollment for self-employed Floridians. Missed open enrollment? You may still qualify for a Special Enrollment Period after a life event like losing a job or losing Medicaid.

Medicare has different dates

Marketplace open enrollment is not the same as Medicare’s Annual Enrollment Period, which runs October 15 through December 7. If you have Medicare or are turning 65, see licensed Medicare agent in Florida.

We do not offer every plan available in your area. Contact Medicare.gov or 1-800-MEDICARE (TTY 1-877-486-2048) to get information on all of your options.

Florida open enrollment FAQ

When is open enrollment in Florida?

Florida uses HealthCare.gov. Open enrollment runs November 1 through January 15. Pick a plan by December 15 for coverage that starts January 1. Plans picked December 16 through January 15 start February 1.

What happens if I miss December 15?

You can still enroll or change plans through January 15, but your coverage will start February 1 instead of January 1. After January 15, you generally need a qualifying life event to enroll.

Will my plan renew automatically?

Often, yes. If you do nothing, HealthCare.gov may re-enroll you in the same or a similar plan. Your premium, tax credit, and doctor network can still change, so update your income and compare before December 15.

Does Florida have its own health insurance marketplace?

No. Florida uses HealthCare.gov, the federal Marketplace. You can apply on your own or with a licensed agent. Either way, your plan and any savings come through HealthCare.gov.

Is your open enrollment help free?

Yes. Our help costs you nothing. If you enroll, the insurance company pays us. We can’t promise a price or subsidy amount, because those depend on your household, income, and ZIP code.
